What Services Do We Provide?

Telecommunications provides infrastructure technology services to Texas Tech University campuses and remote locations.

Our services include network communications of all kinds, e-mail, phone and fax services as well as many foundational services that allow other IT services and applications to function (e.g., eRaider account management and single sign-on, Microsoft Active Directory and Office 365).  Most of our services are used by everyone within Texas Tech University, and even some people within other TTU System institutions.

I Need to Appoint or Modify Network Site Coordinators for My Department

Network Site Coordinator Appointment

Network Site Coordinators (NSCs) act as technology liaisons between functional and academic departments and Telecommunications and the overall IT Division.

A department can have from 1 - 6 NSCs appointed by the department-head.  All NSCs must be full-time employees of TTU.

I Need to Obtain, Reserve, or Release an IP Address

If any of the following situations fits your needs, please click the link below to submit a Network Change Request:

 

  • I have a device that cannot be configured to use DHCP.  I need to have an IP address assigned.  In this case, be sure to include the hardware (MAC) address of your device in the details of your request.
  • I have a device that is configured to obtain its IP information using DHCP, but the address is changing unexpectedly.  I need the IP address reserved so it will stay the same.  In this case, include your device's hardware (MAC) address and the reason why you require an unchanging IP address.
  • I need to request that some formerly reserved IP addresses be released for general use.
  • I need an IP hostname (DNS A record) changed or deleted.

I Need an Existing Network Port Configuration Changed

Often times, an existing network port needs to be adjusted to suit changing needs.  This could involve speed and duplex settings, VLAN or VRF assignment, power delivery (PoE), or frame size.

I Need Network Service for a TTU Remote Site

TTU Remote Site Network Services

TTU has many sites around the state of Texas.  TTU Telecom is responsible for the network communications of all TTU locations.  If you are in need to establishing a new TTU remote site or to equip an existing TTU remote site with network services, please click the link below to initiate a Network Service Request.

In your request, please include details of the location (physical address or Lat/Long coordinates).  Include all available information regarding the nature of the site (lease agreements, TTU ownership, facility sharing with others).  Have floor plans available for review in follow-up meetings with an understanding of which portions of the facility will be occupied by TTU.

All network cable plant infrastructure installation by contractors and sub-contractors must comply with TTU network requirements.  Work must be inspected and approved by TTU Telecom to confirm it meets TTU network requirements.

I Need to Coordinate the Installation of an Audio Video Presentation System

Audio / Video System Installation Service

Audio Video (A/V) systems typically use networks to communicate between various components.  These systems must be designed and installed in compliance with TTU network standards and be approved for installation prior to purchase.

Some aspects of these systems must be installed by TTU Telecom, and some aspects may be required to communicate through the Texas Tech network.  In order to properly understand the communications needs please review the TTU requirements and then submit a detailed request with as much applicable information as possible.

Wi-Fi Installation Service

If you want to request Wi-Fi network service installation at a location without Wi-Fi service, click the link below to initiate a Telecom Network Design & Installation Request.

In your request, provide detailed information about the building in which service is needed, and the room numbers in which you expect Wi-Fi service coverage.  If any of the spaces are classrooms, please specify the seating capacity and expected number of Wi-Fi devices per occupant.

Be advised that Wi-Fi service installation requires approved funding and generally has a minimum cost around $1,400.00.
