How do I get help?
PPP and VPN customers may obtain assistance by contacting the IT Help Desk at 806-742-HELP.
The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) is the Internet Standard for transmission of IP packets over serial lines. PPP allows personal computers to dial in to TTUnet using a 56K modem and seamlessly connect to Internet computers and services at TTU and all over the world directly from home. Tech faculty, students, and staff who want to go "online" will find the PPP service to be a very cost effective means of connecting to TTUnet and the Internet.
TTUnet Modem Pools
The main TTUnet Services modem pool contains modems running at 56K bits per second. V.90 modem service is available and enables PPP clients to achieve the highest connection speed their modem and phone line quality can handle. The V.90 modems will push the limits of analog phone lines to the best connection rate possible. The performance of these modems is monitored and checked every day. The dial-up modem pool provides state-of-the-art PPP service and direct connectivity to the Internet.
VPN Service
Virtual Private Networking is a widely recognized, secure method of connecting to private networks across the Internet. If you utilize another ISP for your Internet connection, this service will extend TTUnet to your PC and allow you to use services blocked by the University's firewall. Examples of this are file shares, printers, Outlook 2000. For those using broadband DSL and Cable modem, this technology provides the means to safely use LAN services across the Internet. VPN service is available to any user who possesses a valid eRaider account. No activation is required and there is no charge for VPN service.
