Authoritative Internet Domain Name Service is administered by the TTUnet NOC for the TTU.EDU domain, as well as several other local US domains.
Name resolution for client computers
DNS name resolution allows you to use easily remembered names to locate services and systems on the network. Over time IP addresses will change, but by using the DNS names these changes are transparent.
Name resolution service for client computers is provided by multiple systems at IP addresses 129.118.1.3 and 129.118.1.9. All TTU systems using TCP/IP based communications need to be configured to use the domain name servers at the aforementioned addresses in the order in which they are listed.
If you have a Windows PC or a Macintosh and need help configuring the domain name servers, click here to view setup instructions, or contact the TTUnet NOC.
Addressing and naming services
IP addresses are centrally administered by TTUnet Network Services. Desktop and laptop computers are automatically assigned IP addresses and names by the University's DHCP servers. Server systems and network attached printers should obtain static IP address and names. Static addresses can only be requested by departmental Network Site Coordinators. Please contact your NSC before attaching or configuring servers or printers.
Internet (DNS) names are assigned to each IP address according to the DNS Naming Guidelines.
Web servers and services found on the network sometimes need DNS names tailored to special needs. Please refer to the Web Server Naming Guidelines and the DNS Naming Guidelines before requesting assistance from the TTUnet Network Operations Center
