Configuring Windows 9X VPN Clients 09/04/01

Please print out these instructions and follow the steps on your computer.

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES TO YOUR CONFIGURATION THAN THOSE SPECIFIED IN THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

Illustrated instructions

  1. Open up the Control Panel.
  2. Go to the Network Control Panel.
  3. In the Network Control Panel press the Add button.
  4. Select Adapter and press the Add button.
  5. Select Microsoft in the Manufactures window. Then select Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter in the Network adapters window. Press the OK button.
  6. Press the OK button. The computer may prompt you for the Windows 9X CD.
  7. When finished the computer will prompt you to restart the computer. Press Yes.
  8. Double-click the My Computer icon.
  9. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  10. Double-click on the Make New Connection icon
  11. Type TTUnet VPN in the name box and select Microsoft VPN Adapter in the device box, then click the Next> button.
  12. Enter the Hostname vpn.ttu.edu, then click the Next> button.
  13. Click on the Finish button.
  14. Right-Click on the TTUnet VPN icon and select Properties.
  15. Click on the Server Types tab. Check Log on to Network, Enable software compression, Require encrypted password, Require data encryption, and TCP/IP. Uncheck Record a log file for this connection, NetBEUI, and IPX/SPX Compatible. Note:  Perform the following steps through Step 16 only if you are on a Cable Modem, DSL, or using any other non-Texas Tech service provider for your commercial Internet service. Otherwise go to Step 17.  Click on TCP/IP Settings.
  16. Check Server assigned IP address, Server assigned name server addresses, and Use IP header compressionUncheck Use default gateway on remote network.  Click on the OK button.
  17. Click on the OK button.
  18. Double click the TTUnet VPN icon.
  19. In the username box enter your eRaider username and  eRaider password in the password box. Click on the connect button.
  20. When connected you will see a connection icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

  1. Open up the Control Panel.

  1. In the Network Control Panel press the Add button.

  1. Select Adapter and press the Add button.

  1. Select Microsoft in the Manufactures window. Then select Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter in the Network adapters window. Press the OK button.

  1. Press the OK button. The computer may prompt you for the Windows 9X CD.

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.

  1. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.

  1. Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.

  1. Type TTUnet VPN in the name box and select Microsoft VPN Adapter in the device box, then click the Next> button.

  1. Enter the Hostname vpn.ttu.edu, then click the Next> button.

  1. Click on the Finish button.

  1. Right-Click on the TTUnet VPN icon and select Properties.

  1. Click on the Server Types tab. Check Log on to Network, Enable software compression, Require encrypted password, Require data encryption, and TCP/IP. Uncheck Record a log file for this connection, NetBEUI, and IPX/SPX Compatible. Note:  Perform the following steps through Step 16 only if you are on a Cable Modem, DSL, or using any other non-Texas Tech service provider for your commercial Internet service. Otherwise go to Step 17.  Click on TCP/IP Settings.

  1. Check Server assigned IP address, Server assigned name server addresses, and Use IP header compression.  Uncheck Use default gateway on remote network.  Click on the OK button.

  1. Double click the TTUnet VPN icon.

  1. In the username box enter your eRaider username and  eRaider password in the password box. Click on the connect button.

  1. When connected you will see a connection icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
