Configuring Windows
2000 VPN Clients |

Please print out these instructions and
follow the steps on your computer.
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES TO YOUR
CONFIGURATION THAN THOSE SPECIFIED IN THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
Illustrated instructions
- Open up the Control Panel.
- Double click on the Network Control Panel and click on the Protocols
tab. Click on the Add button.
- Select Point to Point Tunneling Protocol. Click the OK
button.
- Set the number of Virtual Private Networks to 1.
Press the OK button.
- If Remote Access Service (RAS) is not installed, it will be installed at
this time. If prompted, press the OK button.
- A window titled Add RAS Device will appear. Under RAS
Capable Devices select VPN1-RASPPTPM.
- The Remote Access Setup Screen will appear. Select the
port labeled VPN1. Then click on the Network button.
- Check only TCP/IP and uncheck NetBEUI
and IPX. Note: Perform
the following steps through Step 9 only if you are on a Cable Modem, DSL, or using any
other non-Texas Tech service provider for your commercial Internet service. Otherwise go
to Step 10. Click on the Configure button
next to TCP/IP.
- Check Server assigned IP address, Server
assigned name server addresses, and Use IP header compression.
Uncheck Use default gateway on remote network. Click on the OK
button.
- Click the OK button and then the Continue
button. Then click the Close button on the Network Control Panel. You may
be prompted for the installation CD.
- After the installation is complete you will be prompted to restart your
computer.
- Go to My Computer and click on Dial-up
Networking.
- If this is the first time that you have used Windows NT RAS you will get
a "The phonebook is empty." dialog box. Press the OK
button.
- The Edit Phonebook Entry dialog box will appear. Under
the Basic tab set the Entry Name to TTUnet VPN, the Phone number to vpn.ttu.edu,
and the Dial using to RASPPTPM (VPN1).
- Click on the Security Tab, check Accept only
Microsoft encrypted authentication and Require data encryption.
Click the OK button.
- Click the Dial button to connect. You should be prompted
for your username and password, enter your
eRaider username and eRaider password.
When connected you will see a connection icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your
screen.
- Open up the Control Panel.

- Double click on the Network Control Panel and click on the Protocols
tab. Click on the Add button.

- Select Point to Point Tunneling Protocol. Click the OK
button.

- Set the number of Virtual Private Networks to 1. Press
the OK button.

- If Remote Access Service (RAS) is not installed, it will be installed at this time. If
prompted, press the OK button.

select VPN1-RASPPTPM.
