Two Types of Video Conference Calls

The Texas Tech University Digital Video Network has the capability of two different types of video conference calls.  The different types are ISDN and IP.

The first is Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) using H.320.  This type conference call uses digital telephone lines and charges are incurred if the call uses the Public Switched Telephone Network.  Texas Tech University has connections to Vidnet and ESC17 members that use H.320 protocol and are free to the Texas Tech affiliate*.

The second type call, Internet Protocol (IP) or H.323 uses the internet.  There is no charge for this type call for Texas Tech University affiliates.  Video conferences between members of Internet2 can occur with no charges by Telecommunications.
